LIONS AND TIGERS AND SPEARS, OH MY!

KINC ANSWERS THE CALL OF THE WILD FOR MACY’S

THE COMMUNICATION CHALLENGE
How do you expand an exisitng design to create impact in much larger venue?

Macy's 2006 'Gadina Africana' Flower Show celebrated the culture and flora of the African continent. Brought to Chicago as an expansion of the same event at Macy’s Minneapolis store, Kinc was called in to revamp pre-existing designs to suit the State Street location in Chicago, as well as to develop and fabricate new pieces for the event.

THE DESIGN SOLUTION

In addition to hand-carved animal sculptures, murals, and other architectural settings, Kinc’s charter included the event centerpiece – a flower-shaped mobile comprised of traditional African shield shapes and decorative ceremonial spears. Originally conceived for the Minneapolis store, the mobile design that Macy’s delivered to Kinc was too small to make a suitable impact in the Chicago loction's 13-storey interior atrium.

Great idea! Now how do we build it?

KINC COMES TO THE RESCUE
Working with Field’s Windows and Marketing Events visual team, Kinc delivered an enormous mobile based on the African Gadina blossom. Based on an African shield theme, Kinc replaced the original concept's warlike spears with hand-beaded ceremonial staffs, which softened the piece while adding sparkle and glamour.  Kinc also crowned the mobile with a beautifully painted flower-themed “lid” to create visual interest from the upper floors of the store.
